What are the signs for Jesus' return?

“You also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.” Luke 12:40 (NIV)

Often great natural disasters, like famine and tornados and diseases like COVID, have been seen as warning signs for Jesus' return. In light of these many so called "prophets" in Christian churches have reacted by setting dates for His return.

What do the Scriptures say?

Jesus said that He will come when all seems normal. Wars, rumours of wars, earthquakes, famines and persecution of Christians, will "only be the beginning of pains of the end." Mark 13: 8. "But first, the Good News must be spread to all nations." Mark13:10

Other signs listed in Mark 13:14-25 are:

1. The appearance of the "abomination of desolation" - which could refer to the Beast (or the "man of sin" 2 Thessalonians 2:8). This will spread fear and terror on the earth. Mark 13: 14-20.

2. The prevalence of false christ's and false prophets, deceiving people with miracles and wonders. Mark 13:21-23

3. Then signs in our galaxy, "the sun will turn dark, the moon will not give light, the stars will fall from the sky and the powers of the universe will be shaken." Mark 13:24-25_

Then only, the Son of Man will be seen coming in the clouds with great power and glory and the "chosen ones" from across the earth will be gathered to Him. Mark 13:26-27

We are called to live with alertness because "No one knows when the day or hour will come... Only the Father knows." Mark 13:32
