Bill Withers: An American R&B Icon Has Died
An American R&B icon and Soul singer Bill Withers has died, he was 81 years old. Bill Withers was born on July 3rd, 1938 in West Virginia. He had a rough childhood because his father died at an early age when Bill Withers was only a teenager. Besides that, he also had a very serious stutter when he was young and because of that, other kids often made fun of him. When he was 18 years old, Withers joined the United States Navy and afterward, he worked for many different companies for a living. While he was doing this, he often performed at several clubs at night to earn a little cash on the side and that's what got him into the music business. He made some demos and went to several record companies but he was rejected time after time. He even thought about giving it all up, but ultimately he succeeded in getting a record deal with Sussex Records. From then on, Bill Withers' career really took off. His debut single "Ain't No Sunshine When She's Gone" was an immediate hit and people from all over the world are still jamming to that song to this day. Besides that hit, Withers brought a lot of other great songs into the world, like "Lean On Me" and "In The Name Of Love", to just name a few.
Billy Withers has known great success in his career and has even won 3 Grammy Awards for his authentic and soulful voice and songs. Besides that, he also earned his spot in the Rock And Roll Hall of Fame because of his important contribution to the soul music industry. On March 30th, Billy Withers has died in Los Angeles at the age of 81 years old because of heart problems.
