Jon B. and Donell Jones are Back with a Bang! Releases New "Understand" Video

It’s here!

The R&B world was thrown into a sense of soothing gratification with the recent release of the sensational new single “Understand” by a pair of iconic 90's musicians who conquered the airwaves at a time when ring pops and cassette tapes were all the rage.

A promising partnership that never was but finally is

It was a long time coming with past-century favorites Donell Jones and Jon B finally making good on an announcement earlier in the year that they would be teaming up on a new record. A move many music lovers had been dreaming about for well over two decades.

Donell broke the news that would send hardcore R&B lovers into a spiral via an Instagram post in February when he disclosed a long overdue partnership during a radio station interview. Anticipation turned into reality on 12th April 2019 with the stellar song “Understand”. The song talks about how the best is yet to come and how people should understand that, in their words, “they haven’t seen anything yet!”

Where have they been all this time?

The two have barely made the headlines since their glory days but they were each in their own rights a force to reckon with during their heydays. Killer Jon B song “They Don’t Know” is renowned the world over as are other excellent titles such as “Into the Deep". Meanwhile, the Donell Jones song “I want you to know” is one that fans fondly look back upon with the duo managing dozens of hits between them.

But they haven’t been too quiet with the latter keeping busy with the 2013 album “Forever” and 2016-song “Never Let Go” where he teamed up with rapper David Banner. Jon B has also been out and about with his 2012 album “Comfortable Swagg” ensuring he doesn’t fade from fandom memory.

What’s the song like? Hit or miss?

The song has a bit of a funky modern vibe to it also incorporating a bit of the old-day appeal of back-and-forth shots, scantily light backdrops, and a dimly dressed lady who fades in and out of emotive performances delightfully focused on the actual singing. Overall, the romanticism is more in the words than in the imagery but it’s an excellent take from two legendary figures of whom we would expect nothing less.
